Well Tempered

Well Tempered - The Well Tempered system is a patented innovation from ALTER EGO. This system can be applied to any fretless fingerboard (violin, viola, cello, double bass) to assist students and amateur performers in developing good intonation.

The Well Tempered system has been tested at length and has received positive feedback by teachers and students. The aim is to support the development of good technique and good intonation in beginners with a process of positive reinforcement.

This process is much the same as mounting training wheels on a bicycle: initially they help a beginner to balance and later they are removed when that support is no longer needed. In the very same way, the frets of the Well Tempered system can be removed from the fingerboard when the student begins to feel more comfortable with intonation.

In only takes a few minutes to mount the frets on the fingerboard and it does not require any special expertise.
The uniqueness of the Well tempered system is that the simple nylon frets can also be easily removed. To return to a traditional fingerboard, you can simply pull out the nylon line with your left hand and the frets immediately disappear.

This unique and easy-to-install learning tool is made possible through the use of a specifically engineered board placed between the neck and the fingerboard. A cord is attached to the neck and wound in and around the fingerboard, creating removable frets while leaving the neck smooth.

The player can switch back to a fretless fingerboard in just seconds. Installing the Well Tempered system is as easy as tying a shoe and it allows any player to achieve perfect intonation from the beginning!
